The Hospital has been operating since 1902, originally funded with personal contributions from Mr. Alejandro Mann. Initially, its wards and rooms were used for general medicine, surgery and maternity. However, on September 14, 1948, the hospital was designated exclusively for pediatric use. After serving the community for years as a children’s hospital, the small and homely wooden building began to show signs of aging. The time had come to build a new home. On October 10, 1996, the first stone of the new Children’s Hospital was laid. Under the commendable leadership of It started serving the community on January 17, 2000 and was officially inaugurated on October 9 of the same year, taking the name of Dr. Roberto Gilbert Children’s Hospital. It is also a University Teaching Hospital, offering permanent postgraduate programs in pediatrics. Groups of medical specialists, in various pediatric fields, visit every year to provide Medical Training Cycles and to examine and operate on children. Currently, this entity has a total of 450 beds to serve the public. |
