Opened on January 1st, 1905, this school is located behind Santa Ana Hill, in Guayaquil. Since its opening until January, 2001 the Instituto José Domingo de Santistevan was directed and run by the Salesian Fathers. Today it is run through an agreement with Espíritu Santo University, and a pre-school, elementary school and last grade of high school have been added, so it can now offer a complete primary and secondary education. Currently, there are 1,475 students at the school. Instituto José Domingo de Santistevan has educated generations of students. Some of its former students have had outstanding careers and have made great contributions to the country, as was the case with Dr. Eduardo Peña Triviño, who worked as the Minister of Education and later became the Vice President of Ecuador. Approximately 1,312 students from low-income families attend the school. The school has a computer lab where daily, students have the opportunity to practice using the tools that are so fundamental nowadays. Instituto José Domingo de Santistevan also offers workshops on Electromechanics and Electricity, which are other useful tools for students to learn.
