120 years working for our community Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil was founded in 1888 by a group of philanthropists, led by Francisco Campos-Coello, who were concerned about the living conditions of the most deprived and destitute inhabitants of Guayaquil, Ecuador’s most densely populated city. The founders secured the original funds from donations and legacies, forming the cornerstone upon which the Junta’s work and commitment to the community have been based. Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil continues to receive the community’s support and trust as well as charitable contributions from its members. Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil has provided practical and caring solutions to the large section of the city’s population that lacks any private or public medical insurance or is insufficiently protected by the public health system. 3,200 families helping us help them THE ROLE OF THE NATIONAL LOTTERY The idea of the National Lottery, created through Law in August 1894, was to guarantee continuous funding.
